This clip is a trailer for a movie, that I have not seen. As such I do not want to criticise the film but the trailer has all kinds of red lights going off in my head. Has anyone seen this movie? Is it different from the trailer? What do you think of the trailer?

Well the main line in it to me that makes it not BDSM is the one about contracts being irrevocable. Once there’s no consent, it’s abuse/assault.
However it looks like it’s more absurdist than it is a story about the actual BDSM lifestyle. I also know virtually nothing about kink in Japan, but hentai and the overall media portrayal of sex and kink and tends to show extreme, non-consensual and over the top situations… eg. tentacle porn. So honestly it’s kind of hard to view this without cultural context… but my sense is that it’s intended more like SinCity or Zombie Strippers than like 50 shades of Grey.
I agree on the consent front Xen. I have never seen Zombie strippers but if it is a film that is totally separating itself from reality, in the way that SinCity did, that would shine a whole new light on the matter.

Ah when I read up on it I found that it wasn’t mean to be a real / serious BDSM film, it’s more a dramady / parody / comic take on it… with a subplot involving a bunch of people watching the guy as he lives out his year in contract, like a Truman show type of thing.
