THE SUNDAY SWISHING – AND A VISIT TO DURBUY

Feel The Rage Of The Machine

Durbuy, Arguably The Smallest City In The World

I think that there will be other competitors to the title “World’s Smallest City”, It’s a bit like “England’s Oldest Pub”, there must be more than twenty of those. Durbuy is tiny though, if you judged it on size it would only count as a village. It is a beautiful little place to visit though, located on the banks of the River Ourthe with many tiny, ancient streets to explore.

There is a stately home in the city but this is not generally open to the public

And an amazing rock formation that has been turned into a feature, with the addition of a large pond and fountain

I finished my day of sauntering around this little burg with a visit to the topiary gardens

On Tuesday I will post the last of my holiday snaps that where taken as I explored the River Ourthe

  2. I have seen a few videos with that spanking machine in too Nora. I’m not sure but I think it is based on an automatic clay pigeon launcher. It does look harsh but I would still like to try something like that one day.

I did enjoy the Ardennes this year, it has been years since I have visited the region and I had forgotten how much of it I had not seen. Not sure where you are based Nora but if Belgium is close there are plenty of things to see and do here, after the crisis is over of course.

  4. What a beautiful little town. Thanks for the pictures. Funny how you describe a stately home, when it probably was owned by some nobleman (what a croc of sh*t to call these people noble), and paid for by serfs, and possibly slave holdings in Africa and elsewhere. I can no longer think of any of these except with very ill feelings. Much like the properties of royalty in Russia, and that the extinction of the king and family was a necessity. Sadly, the communism that followed was equally terrible (excuse me for ranting about potitcs.

    • It is a beautiful little City Red. Still I think that it is good to remember history both for the good things and a warning against repeating the bad things.

      • True. Beautiful to look at, but the same distribution of wealth keeps happening, by the laws enacted by the rich donors to politicians, and the electorate lead like lemmings

        • Very true and every time someone finds a way of turning that around the next generation of rich people find a new way to take power. it takes constant vigilance and new thinking to prevent things becoming too one sided.
